Drug Induced Nutrient Depletions: Nutritional Support for Patients on Common Medications

Join Kristen McCormack-Sedransk, ND for an evidence-informed webinar designed for healthcare practitioners. We’ll review how specific medication classes can impact nutrient status, explore the physiological mechanisms behind these effects, and discuss practical, nutritional strategies to help restore balance and support overall health.

Objectives:
1.  Explain the concept of drug-induced nutrient depletion and why it is clinically relevant in patient care.

2. Describe the physiological mechanisms by which certain medications alter nutrient absorption, metabolism, utilization, or excretion and identify high risk patients.

3. Identify common classes and most utilized medications known to cause nutrient depletions (e.g., statins, proton pump inhibitors, antidiabetics, and more).

4. List key nutrients most frequently depleted by prescription drugs and identify signs and symptoms that may indicate nutrient depletion in patients taking long-term medications.

5. Review relevant lab tests that may help assess nutrient status in patients on chronic medication regimens and apply a functional medicine perspective to support patient health to mitigate nutrient depletion.

The webinar recording lasts 1 hour and 2 minutes, including a Q & A session.
